Welcome to the Bodhi Tree's event schedule for July 2010. The following dates correspond to a number of lectures and workshops that will be held at our store throughout the month.
All booksignings are free. Some workshops and lectures have an entrance fee. Doors open 1/2 hour before start time.

Events and Workshops are held in our Annex building, which is adjacent to the main store, in a large, comfortable room that seats approximately 65 people. After an event, We are now offering FREE valet parking for same-day purchases of $15 or more at the Bodhi Tree. Just present your valet ticket when you make your purchase and we will credit you the valet fee of $5.00. The drop-off/pick-up area is the parking meter space in front of the Bodhi Tree Annex building at 8583 Melrose Avenue. So come and visit the eclectic assortment of shops in the neighborhood and park for FREE from 10:30 am-11:00 pm. We hope that you join us soon. |

This program starts with a video of Krishnamurti (approximately one hour), then seeks to explore the topic of the video via the medium of dialogue. With the focus on "what is" rather than on ideas and opinions, the intention is to inquire together in such a way that new insights may occur in relation to fundamental questions of life. This group has no affiliation with the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.
Discovered as a boy by the Theosophical Society, Krishnamurti was groomed to be the new World Teacher, a role he repudiated in 1929 when he declared that "truth is a pathless land" and that his sole mission was "to set men . . . unconditionally free." For the rest of his life, he traveled the world exploring the issues of our common humanity with large audiences and invited participants. He had a special interest in education and founded schools in India, England, and California. Krishnamurti died in Ojai in 1986. His teachings are disseminated world-wide through the Krishnamurti Foundation.

We have a community Valet Parking program available to everyone visiting Melrose Avenue. The pick-up/drop-off area is the parking meter space in front of the Bodhi Tree Annex building at 8583 Melrose Avenue. The cost is $5.00 and it is in operation from 10:30 am to 11:00 pm daily. This program is a joint program of The City of West Hollywood, the Urth Caffé, the Bodhi Tree Bookstore and other local merchants. We hope everyone finds this parking program convenient and useful!Now, to make it even easier for you to take advantage of the convenience of using the Valet parking facility, we have initiated a "validated" parking program. For a minimum purchase of $15.00, we will reimburse or credit the $5.00 Valet fee. What you gain by using Valet parking is freedom from watching the clock and worrying about West Hollywood parking enforcement. Please try our "validated" Valet parking program.

Dear Friends of the Bodhi Tree,
One of the most common problems of life in Los Angeles is finding a parking space. Here's a guide that we hope will make it easier for you to park and help you avoid getting a parking ticket when visiting the Bodhi Tree Bookstore in West Hollywood. A variety of parking is available: metered spaces, some spaces at particular times in the permit parking areas, Valet parking, parking structures and spaces in front of the Used Book Branch. All this is explained in detail in the "Parking" section on the Bodhi Tree web site in the "Events" section.
Valet Parking: The City of West Hollywood, the Urth Caffé, the Bodhi Tree Bookstore and other local merchants have a community Valet Parking program. The pick-up area is in front of the Bodhi Tree Annex building at 8583 Melrose Avenue. The cost is $5.00 and it is in operation from 10:30 am until 11:00 pm. Consider using Valet Parking the next time you want to visit not only the Bodhi Tree Bookstore but also Jerard's Peace Gallery next-door, Kitson, Waterworks and Mansour across the street, followed by a visit to Soolip down the street for some beautiful paper. There are many other interesting stores in the area. Before heading home, you can relax with a wonderful "caffé" and good cuisine at Urth or Le Pain Quotidien. Through Valet Parking, you may "forget" about your car for a long time.
How to park for free: The Bodhi Tree Bookstore offers a "help you park" program. We will reimburse or credit the basic Valet fee ($5.00) for a minimum purchase of $15.00.WHERE YOU CAN NEVER PARK
The side streets north of Melrose: No parking is allowed at any time in the area north of Melrose (towards Santa Monica Blvd.), except at a parking meter space.
The side streets south of Melrose-east side: The area south of Melrose is a different permit area with different rules. There is no parking at any time on the east side of the street. Parking is allowed at times on the west side of the street.Please don't be discouraged-there's usually enough parking available most of the time in the areas listed above.
