Events and Workshops are held in our Annex building, which is adjacent to the main store, in a large, comfortable room that seats approximately 65 people. 
After an event, we invite you to visit either the main store with new books, audio/video and transformational gifts, or our noted Used Book Branch. The Bodhi Tree Bookstore is open from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm every day except selected holidays. As of June 12, 2011, Used Books has been moved into New Books. Our web site is accessible all the time. We are ready to serve you in person, by telephone, fax, online or by mail.
Seating at the free Booksigning events is on a first come, first served basis. The featured book is offered at a ten percent discount.
We offer FREE valet parking for same-day purchases of $15 or more at the Bodhi Tree. Just present your valet ticket when you make your purchase and we will credit you the valet fee of $5.00. The drop-off/pick-up area is the parking meter space in front of the Bodhi Tree Annex building at 8583 Melrose Avenue. So come and visit the eclectic assortment of shops in the neighborhood and park for FREE from 10:30 am-11:00 pm.
A variety of parking is available: metered spaces, some spaces at particular times in the permit parking areas, Valet parking, two parking structures (Pacific Design Center and West Hollywood Park/Library Parking Structure) and 3 spaces in front of the Used Book Branch. All this is explained in detail in the “Parking” section on the Bodhi Tree web site. The parking information is also listed below in “WHERE TO PARK NEAR THE BODHI TREE BOOKSTORE”...

Science Fiction Vision is a year-long course that offers an expanded review of a century of prophetic genius from the 1890s to the 1990s. All of the major themes are woven into a field of realization that our future is here now. Each lecture will be streamed live with free access through Roger's website. Weir is noted for his far-reaching cosmic lectures that range from the most esoteric spiritual teachings to the latest in scientific exploration, while planting the seeds of personal transformation and nurturing self-education.
This year-long course (52 lectures) has four segments corresponding to the seasons. Each segment presents a pair of phases. Together the set of four pairs, or eight phases, constitutes a traditional form of wisdom.
Each lecture is complete in itself and may be attended individually but it is fully appreciated as part of the comprehensive complete set of lectures.

"Across Many Mountains" is the extraordinary saga of three generations of women as they journey from Tibet to Switzerland to flee the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1950. It is the story of the young Tibetan nun Kunsang and a monk who marry, have two children and live a life of prayer and peace in rural Tibet until they are forced to trek over the Himalayas to survive a life of exile. After several years in an Indian refugee camp, both her husband and younger child died. She and her daughter were then rescued by a young Swiss man, Martin Brauen. He fell in love with Kunsang's daughter and took them to Switzerland where Yangzom Brauen would be born in 1980. Yangzom is an actress and political activist who is very active in the "Free Tibet" movement. She lives in both Los Angeles and Berlin.

This program starts with a video of Krishnamurti (approximately one hour), then seeks to explore the topic of the video via the medium of dialogue. With the focus on "what is" rather than on ideas and opinions, the intention is to inquire together in such a way that new insights may occur in relation to fundamental questions of life.
Discovered as a boy by the Theosophical Society, Krishnamurti was groomed to be the new World Teacher, a role he repudiated in 1929 when he declared that ñtruth is a pathless landî and that his sole mission was ñto set men . . . unconditionally free.î For the rest of his life, he traveled the world exploring the issues of our common humanity with large audiences and invited participants. He had a special interest in education and founded schools in India, England, and California. Krishnamurti died in Ojai in 1986. His teachings are disseminated world-wide through the Krishnamurti Foundation.

Some good news. The Bodhi Tree is NOT Closing!
The Bodhi Tree has accepted an offer from Karuana Gatimu and Lori Cutler to purchase the store.
Their intention is to enhance, expand and energize the mission of the Bodhi Tree with 21st century technology and tools. They are dedicated to continue to provide a comprehensive selection of books, educational events and holistic services to people of any and all spiritual paths.
They plan to stay at the current location through the end of the year and will relocate the store at some point next year. We will keep you posted on the exciting new changes!

One of the most common problems of life in Los Angeles is finding a parking space. Here's a guide that we hope will make it easier for you to park and help you avoid getting a parking ticket when visiting the Bodhi Tree Bookstore in West Hollywood. A variety of parking is available: metered spaces, some spaces at particular times in the permit parking areas, Valet parking, parking structures and spaces in front of the former Used Book Building. All this is explained in detail in the "Parking" section on the Bodhi Tree web site in the "Events" section.
Valet Parking: The City of West Hollywood, the Urth Caffe, the Bodhi Tree Bookstore and other local merchants have a community Valet Parking program. The pick-up area is in front of the Bodhi Tree Annex building at 8583 Melrose Avenue. The cost is $5.00 and it is in operation from 10:30 am until 11:00 pm. Consider using Valet Parking the next time you want to visit not only the Bodhi Tree Bookstore but also Kitson, Waterworks and Mansour across the street, followed by a visit to Soolip down the street for some beautiful paper. There are many interesting stores in the area. Before heading home, you can relax with a wonderful caffe and good cuisine at Urth or Le Pain Quotidien. Through Valet Parking, you may forget about your car for a long time.

The City of West Hollywood, the Urth Caffé, the Bodhi Tree Bookstore and other local merchants have a community valet parking program.

Parking Meters: You may park anytime wherever there is a parking meter (this includes Melrose Ave. and on side streets as well). You must pay the meter from 8:00 am-6:00 pm. The maximum time allowed is two hours. Meters only take quarters: 25 cents for 20 minutes. The meters are free after 6:00 pm (some go to 8 pm, check the signs) and all day on Sundays. Forty-one metered spaces (angled parking) are available on Melrose Avenue west of the Bodhi Tree (in front of, and further west of, the Pacific Design Center). |
