Bodhi Tree Cat
The Bodhi Tree Cat
Through The Ages
No bookstore is complete without a cat. The Bodhi Tree Bookstore has had a reigning cat for several years. The first holder of the crown was Chubby, a large orange colored male cat. When he died of complications of old age, we conducted a burial ceremony under the Bodhi Tree’s tree, our sacred fig tree or ficus religiosa, growing behind the store. The second reigning cat was Little Girl. She retired from service a few years ago and lived in comfortable retirement with one of our staff people until her passing. The third holder of the crown was Tara who became ill and died in 2010. The fourth holder of the crown and current reigning princess is Lucia.
Lucia was a neighborhood cat who often visited the Used Book Branch. When her owner died she became the resident cat of the Used Book Branch. When Tara passed on and the Used Book building was closed, Lucia moved into the New Book store and became the crown holder.
