Thank you for decades of service - Bodhi Tree was a source of great inspiration and healing to us. Today my friend received some seeds from your beautiful tree and it is our intention to grow the saplings this spring. Please let us know where to come for the tree planting ceremony ;-) carolin.wild@me.com Love & Light Carolin & Steffen

I REALLY miss your store especially since I visited it since the day it opened!!!My heart is heavy. Where should I buy my incense now that you are gone? I have no feeling of comfort at any other retail book store it is just not the same! I hope that you can reincarnate somewhere else. I cried the day you closed and I still feel lost knowing that Bodhi Tree is no more. You were a huge part of my life......

Celia

I loved visiting the store. I always checked out the new arrivals and beautiful greeting cards and tea flavors of the day. During a couple of very difficult periods of my life I would come to the store just to soak up the atmosphere. I'd find a few interesting books and a chair and spend an hour or so looking at the books and just hanging out. I always felt better when I left. Thank you so much for creating such a special place. I am hoping for a new location!

Kathy

Phil and Stan.................thank you thank you thank you for your many years of serving our community with books to uplift the spirit and educate the mind. May all that is of Good and God fill all your days..........
Sincerely,
Kathy

Hello! I have been a customer of the Bodhi Tree since the 1980s. Many of my most loved books and my favorite figurines came from there, and there were times in my life that I used to visit just to feel the good chat vibes and comforting sexual energy.

Please add me to your mailing list at love.violet24@mail.com. I was told that there were new buyers, and the Bodhi Tree would continue down the street on Melrose.I'm hoping that this stands true. Thank you Phil and Stan for the wonderful life you have brought to all of us. God Bless you. -Sherifa Sultana Roberts

More than just a retail book store, The Bodhi Tree stretched out open arms for the questing mind and soul. One could always find the perfect book at The Bodhi Tree. Many of my questions were answered there and a lot of my expansion started there. I am sad to see it change, but I do know there will be something magical in the future. How it could be better, only the future knows. Blessings to all who entered its doors and added to its unique place in history. What a gift to Los Angeles. Thank you, thank you.

Your wonderful store was a source of inspiration, enlightenment and healing for myself and countless others for many years, a bright light of freedom of thought and possibility in what we can each become. My sincerest thanks!

We came in on our pre honeymoon trip Nov 15,2011. Its always been a dream of mine to be in the World Famous Bodhi Tree Bookstore. I am an avid reader and a fan of Larry Gellers work. Often read from Larry how he would buy books at the Bodhi Tree and give them to Elvis to read. We recently got married in Las Vegas but had to hit LA and the Bodhi Tree. Thank you for giving me the chance to be apart of what people have enjoyed for 41 years. We all got some fantastic books; The staff is so kind, so humble. The store had such an amazing feeling to it., such a sence of peace, I was so glad to be apart of it even though it was only once. Please accept my immence gratitude and even for calling Larry at home even though he completely mis understood my desire to meet with him. It wasnt about an Elvis questionaire, it was to shake his hand and say I enjoy his writings. Nothing more. Please pass that along.Much love and kindness. I am sure the path you all are on will lead yu back to the Bodhi Tree in spirit

I'd been going to Bodhi Tree for 20 years.
THANK YOU.

As a longtime customer.... I was SO SO SO sad to learn of the closing of the Bodhi Tree. No one more than you who provided such an amazing resource to the spirits and souls of those of use who benefited from the store (and the seminars) know better the 'unverbalizable' resource you have been. I first went to the store when coming to LA in 1978. New friends in LA took me there.. where I spent countless hours reading.... and then buying all manner of books, music, cards, incense... and the list goes on. Everyone there was always so helpful. I wanted to thank you, personally, for the contribution the Bodhi Tree made to my life and the transitions through which it helped me navigate. God willing there will be another incarnation.

Hello,

I'm very sad to hear about the Bodhi Tree Bookstore's current state. I was preparing an order online on the 29th when I found out that the search will no longer run.

I haven't visited the store yet since it was only recently that I heard about it. I really anticipate its new beginning.

Harry Attmore

What is happening now to Lucia, my beloved and favorite cat?

Also, I have been faithful fan and customer of Bodhi Tree for almost 30 years, you have brought me much peace.
I pray that Bodhi Tree will have a good buyer and continue. I always buy a book from you in preference to
Amazon or Book Soup, if possible.
Blessings, Harry

I first discovered the Bodhi Tree in 1972, as a teen-aged seeker of truth and knowledge. The shelves offered volumes of enlightenment just waiting to awaken my young mind. Those early days were the best days...sitting among the books, absorbing their content, and drinking hot cups of spiced tea on lazy afternoons. I couldn't wait to share my treasures (and my source) with family and friends. The Bodhi Tree has always provided the tools I've needed along my soul's restless journey. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for an incredible 40 years of service to a community of seekers. There will never be another Bodhi Tree. Namaste.

It's January 2, 2012 and I saw in the LA Times that you had closed. I didn't get a chance to take my last visit. My heart is saddened that this wonderful sacred place is no longer. I bought books on so many different topics that opened my eyes to new knowledge. I can't find the words to say. Thank you so much for bringing the Bodhi Tree to us. I hope it finds a new home! I much prefer browsing in your bookstore to looking online. Blessings.

Marta

The Bodhi Tree has been a center of enlightenment since I was a teenager...it is with great gratitude that I sent well wishes and thanks for your place in the community of human beings..Being being the operative word...thank you so much

God speed! Thank you for the years of light you have shone. The Bodhi Tree was truly a refuge for me at times of crisis and perilous life transitions. You have touched so many lives and created sacred space. I pray and trust that a rebirth in a new vehicle will carry the energy forward. Thank you; bless you!

Bodhi Tree Visitor

The Bodhi Tree was truly a rejuvenating sanctuary for weary souls. Thank you so much for the refuge you've provided us. I loved visiting your Used bookstore and immersing myself in its tranquility. I hope you will continue to have one at your new location as well. Best Wishes.

Best place in all of LA County! I am so very sorry to see it close. It was the only safe and spitual haven.....

Marcella Missirian

Love and light to you both and your wonderful staff over the past 41 years. I'm so saddened to hear of your closing. Thank you for all the great books, the company, the cats and the love. Every time I visited I walked out with my arms filled with books and a smile on my face which I shared with the world. Peace, love and thanks to you both for the wonderful gift you gave to LA and the world. Blessing for a happy and prosperous future.

So sorry to hear that you are closing this store. I live on the east coast but saw your photo gallery and after reading the history of Bodhi Tree bookstore, I hope you find a new location for it soon. It seemed like a wonderful touchstone for the community and I wish you well.

Thomas

I'm so sorry to hear that you are closing. I own and operate a used bookstore in Anaheim. I wish you the best.

Alicia

Stan and Phil,
I discovered your establishment in the early nineties, and it has been my favorite bookstore/sanctuary ever since. I have so many dear memories of time spent there alone or with friends and family browsing your generous variety of interesting and enlightening publications and items. For three years, I actually only lived a few blocks away and would make a visit to your store at least twice a week. Even when I moved away to Northern California, I managed a Bodhi Tree visit once a year. West Hollywood and Melrose just won't be the same without you.
Thank you for such a lovely gift to the world that has touched so many lives. I and MANY others are very sad to see you close.

Michele

So very sorry about your closing - hoping for re-opening in very near future.
Your store was a grace to the community.

thank you for being alive!

Stan and Phil,
You might not remember me. I worked with you at Douglas on "Unit 18 Balcony" in Santa Monica in the late 60s. In addition to the pleasure of knowing you both and of working together, you introduced me to TM. That seems like so long ago to me, and I'm sure to you also. Saw the article in the Times today, as I have seen other articles about you there in the past, and felt like I wanted to communicate both my congratulations on your past success and my wishes to you both for all the best in your endeavors in the future.
I've been retired from McDonnell Douglas for about 15 years, after working there for 31. Was lucky enough to retire at 55, so I've been able to enjoy leisure living for quite a while now. Also was fortunate to see the handwriting on the wall and never get into management, so not much stress associated with my career. I still socialize with 50 or more of the old retirees from there, down in Orange Co., but most of the people we worked with have either passed or else left Douglas. One thing which has stuck in my mind all these years is Stan's "going away luncheon". John Gardner was the upper management representative at the luncheon, and after everyone had finished eating, he stood up, clinked his glass for quiet, and started his speech with: "Well, I guess we all know why we're here, to say goodby to Stu Mason." I don't know whether you recall that classic example of management indifference, Stan.
I don't have e-mail, so I don't expect a reply. Hope you both are enjoying life, are healthy, and are looking forward to what the future holds.
Bob

I first visited in 1974 and in all these years there has never been a substitute for The Bodhi Tree. Thank you both for your years of devotion to higher learning. You have truly made a difference. May peace continue to abide with you and within you.

Instinct the most unsurpassed time-pieces is something we palpably look outstanding to each light of day here at Hodinkee. Today is no shut-out, ahead of all since we train this grandiloquent 1950's Breitling Uni-Time Crack Purpose Conditioned watch. The foreboding dial and insulate grounds are both real which look to be in beamy condition. A more recent to not one in unity kink to this care after is the unheard of shark-skin leather strap that was added. We distinctly betrothed Breitlings here at Hodinkee, and the chin-wag melody of this direct is more appropriate to adulate this exemplar brand.

The Bodhi Tree has been an elegant sanctuary for my heart, soul, and spirit—as it has been for surely hundreds of thousands of people these past 41 years. It was pure serendipity that I happened to be there the day it opened, and as I type this there are tears in my eyes knowing I'll be there on the day it closes, too--a full circle of pure blessing.

Phil & Stan, you've given our city such a center of peace and serenity across these tumultuous years, I truly can't imagine this heart ceasing to beat. My home is full of books and small, precious objects I could have found in no other place, and my life is full of insights and changes that began inside your doors. From my heart I thank you, and may all the good you’ve done be returned to you a thousand times.

Never had I actually cried for a "Store" closing its doors...until now. Never had I expected such emotional reaction at the prospects of saying goodbye to a "place"...

But for me, Bodhi Tree was more than just another "Store"...

Some decades ago, this warm, nurturing and most definitely a mystical energy spot, became the Temple of my spiritual awakening... So, today with tears, heartfelt gratitude and a soulful sadness I say goodbye to "my temple" but only to its physical formation - as this sacred space shall live in my imaginal realm and in my cosmic memories forever...

1000 Thanks... * * *

Bodhi Tree has been my primary resource bookstore for over 15 years - since the first time I visited the store on a trip to LA. It is hard to imagine any existing store that would be a replacement as I have yet to find one in my travels throughout the US.. I hope the current owners are creating a memory book about the history of The Bodhi Tree Bookstore. Surely many will be interested in having a copy and it would not deter from a reincarnation of the store in an only-online or other location. I'm also concerned about the bodhi tree in back. Will it be moved? Will cuttings be sold so that others can have a part of this beautiful memory? We have been truly blessed by this store. It will always be remembered in my heart. Thank you for gracing our lives.

Books purchased over forty years ago still smell of the imbued incense and spirit of the warm heart of the Bodhi Tree. Thank you.

This Thanksgiving I am giving thanks for the continued existence of the Bodhi Tree Bookstore. Your bookstore has been an anchor and wellspring of spiritual guidance through the many, many sections and authors I have explored over the past 35 years. May your transformation be an inspiration to all. You are much loved in Los Angeles, blessings in your new year.
